Dog Food for Struvite Stones

Struvite bladder stones (struvite crystals) are the most common bladder stones in dogs and generally form as the result of a urinary tract infection. They can occur as a number of large stones or as collections of smaller stones, and frequently occur in puppies and senior dogs who are more susceptible to UTIs. Senior female dogs in particular are prone to urinary tract infections and are therefore more prone to struvite stones. All such dogs definitely benefit from a dog food for struvite stones made with fresh food ingredients.

Generally caused by a urinary tract infection, struvite stones can invariably be treated without surgery and normally purely with a properly formulated diet prepared for your dog by a qualified canine nutritionist. Diet is paramount though if you want to keep your dog free of struvite stones in the future. Commercial dog food, even so-called prescription dog food, is not suitable for a dog suffering from struvite stones. If your dog does sufferent from struvite stones, it needs an acidic diet made with fresh ingredients. It needs a dog food for struvite stones created by a dog nutritionist who understands the power of dog nutrition.

If your dog does suffer from struvite stones, it’s important to keep its urine pH balance acidic. That means less (much less) highly processed commercial dog food and more fresh meat and dairy products because these are high acidic foods.
