Dog Cancer Diet

Cancer is said to be the main cause of death in around 50% of dogs over the age of ten. There are more than a hundred different types of canine cancer. In dogs, mast cell tumours, which typically form on the skin, are said to be the most common.

Importantly, cancer in dogs is very treatable. In fact it is said to be treatable in more than half of cases if detected early enough. While the cause of cancer is not exactly known, helping your dog maintain a strong immune system can help protect your canine friend against this dreadful disease.

If your dog is unfortunate enough to develop cancer, your vet will of course determine the course of treatment. This will greatly depend on the type and severity of the disease. It will also depend on your dog’s age and whether or not he or she suffers from any other health problems.

Improved canine nutrition offers anticancer benefits

But that doesn’t mean you can’t still greatly improve your dog’s chances by improving his or her diet. In fact there is compelling evidence that food alone can offer your dog both an improved life, and improved chances of actually defeating this most feared of diseases. That is not to say that food alone can cure cancer. But by managing your dog’s diet and offering improved dog nutrition, it will benefit your dog greatly. It will both improve any veterinary treatment and offer your dog a better quality of life.

Cancer alters a dog’s metabolism. Logic therefore dictates that a specific dog cancer diet can be beneficial in arresting or even defeating the disease. But this can’t be done with a commercial diet. It has to be a healthy diet that will boost your dog’s immune system. It also needs to be a dog cancer diet with specific ratios of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. This is essential if your dog’s anticancer protocol is to be successful.
