During her recent regular check up at the vets, the lady vet commented on Ava’s general overall condition and, in particular, her magnificent coat.
“What do you feed her on?” she asked.
Well. What could I do but tell the truth? “I home cook for her,” I said proudly.
“Really?” said the vet. “Well she looks absolutely wonderful on it.”
“Thank you,” I said, smiling from ear to ear for the rest of the day.
It’s one thing knowing you’re doing the absolute very best for your dog. It’s another entirely when your vet thinks your dog looks so healthy she’s compelled to ask what you feed her on like she’s never met such a healthy young dog before!
Needless to say, Ava received a clean bill of health, and The Canine Nutritionist earned another advocate. A good day all round I rather thought!
Note: I originally wrote and published that on my other site (We Cook for Dogs!) a couple of years ago shortly after rehoming Ava who was five and a half months old at the time. Since then I’ve stopped taking my dogs for both checkups and annual vaccinations. There is simply too much evidence pointing to the fact that annual injections for dogs are both unnecessary and potentially harmful. I fervently believe every dog parent today should be asking themselves the question, Why Vaccinate a Healthy Dog?
