So many dog health problems can be successfully treated without veterinary intervention. It’s even been suggested that the vast majority of canine ailments can be treated without putting your dog through the trauma of a visit to the vet. Dog health problems such as skin and ear infections, digestive issues and weight problems can all be successfully treated by a canine nutritionist. Why? Because most dog health problems are diet related. That is to say, they are caused by a poor diet. And, by inference, they can be cured with an improved diet!
Like it or not, commercial dog food is inherently unhealthy. It is made with cheap, low quality ingredients. It is laced with chemicals and additives all of which damage the health of dogs. There is a very good reason why commercial dog food doesn’t look like real food. It isn’t!
Dog food intolerance
Yes, but my dog has eaten the same food for years, some people say. They don’t understand, that’s how a food intolerance works. A food intolerance or sensitivity can take years before it becomes apparent. All that time your dog might appear to be doing well on commercial dog food, but there are a number of reasons for that.
Dog parents treat the likes of ear and skin infections as simply being part and parcel of a dog’s life. They are not. They are an external manifestation of an internal problem. In other words, your dog’s immune system is letting you know that something is wrong internally. Simply treating an ear infection with drops or a skin infection with steroids is compounding the problem. It is adding insult to injury. It is dealing with the symptom rather than the problem. It’s masking the problem so you can no longer see it. But the problem is still there and almost certainly getting sworse. And the shocking truth is that the problem is invariably diet related.
Many dog health problems have become the norm
Many dog health problems have become so common that today, people accept them as the norm. They are used to seeing obese dogs for example. So used in fact that they no longer see their own dog as obese. They see so many similar dogs they think that is how dogs should look. But that is not the case. And it may be an uncomfortable truth to many people, but studies show that obese dogs live shorter lives. You need to see how your dog should look to fully understand. Allowing a dog to become overweight or obese can shorten their lives by as much as 15%!
Many dog health problems are not immediately apparent
Many dog health problems are not apparent until it is generally too late. Take inflammation for example. Most canine health problems relate to chronic inflammation. It’s exactly the same with human beings. Allergies, diabetes, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease. All relate to inflammation.
Chronic inflammation can occur as a result of your dog’s immune system negatively reacting to the cells in its own body. But invariably chronic inflammation is diet related. Highly processed commercial dog foods are heavily reliant on low quality grains such as wheat, rice and soy. These ingredients are not necessarily harmful in themselves. But when they are low grade and make up such a large percentage of the average commercial diet, they are the proverbial recipe for inflammatory disaster.
In both human beings and dogs, diets that are high in refined carbohydrates have been proven to increase inflammatory symptoms. Commercial dog food is high in refined carboydrates because they’re cheap. Diets that are high in protein and low in carbs improve digestive health and reduce inflammation. Diets such as dry dog food which is low in protein and high in carbs has the oppositive effect. Poor digestive health and an increased risk of some of the inflammatory diseases listed above.
