Senior Dog Calorie Calculator

As a dog ages, its activity level reduces. Its metabolism slows down, and its calorie requirement reduces accordingly. It is much the same for we human beings. My senior dog calorie calculator is designed to help guide you in estimating your senior dog’s calorie requirements.

It’s important that we take this reduced calorific requirement into account when calculating how much to feed our senior dogs. If we don’t, our dogs can gain unnecessary weight. And with that weight gain, the increased possibility of ill health and a reduction in lifespan.

Please use the chart below as a rough guide. All figures are estimates given purely for guidance. The actual calorie requirement may well vary from dog to dog. Every dog is different.

Other useful guides

At the end of the day, nothing beats monitoring your dogs’ bodyweight regularly. It is much easier to stop them gaining weight than it is to help them lose it.

My Body Condition Chart should help in that regard.

I’ve also created a Senior Dog Diet Plan. It’s a specially formulated senior dog diet plan which takes into account the specific dietary requirements of the senior dog. If I can help your senior dog in any way, do please let me know.
