Good nutrition dog food
I know from the number of people who every day search on the internet for ‘good nutrition dog food’ that there are a lot of concerned dog parents out there.
From my perspective as a dog nutritionist I find it frustrating that the commercial dog food industry dominates the search results for the term. Not because they produce good nutrition dog food. Far from it. But because they pay to be at the top of the search results every time someone searches for the term. They learn what search terms people use and then hijack them!
I’ve just searched for that term myself. The top three search results showed manufacturers of dry dog biscuit. The terms dry dog biscuit and good nutrition dog food don’t deserve to be within a million miles of one another let alone on the same search page. But that’s how commercial dog food manufacturers trick potential customers. They fool them into associating dry dog biscuit (kibble) with good nutrition. Dry dog biscuit isn’t good nutrition. Never was, never will be!
The power of marketing
Dog parents today have been brainwashed into thinking that commercial dog food is the only way to feed their best friend. Aided and abetted by vets and The Kennel Club of course.
The market is dominated by global brands who produce food for us human beings, and then sell the waste products as dog food once all the good nutrition has been taken out. That’s how they can sell it so cheaply. You and I have already paid for it when we buy food for ourselves and our families. Instead of paying to dump the waste in landfill, they sell it to unwitting dog parents who don’t seem to question why it’s so cheap. It’s cheap because it’s rubbish!
Commercial dog food comprises things like by-products, chemicals and sawdust. Oh yes. There’s sawdust in your dog’s commercial dog food. If you see cellulose on the packet, it’s sawdust. Is it any wonder that dogs are living shorter lives than they before commercial dog food came along? Is it suprising that today we have numerous common canine health problems that 50 years ago were simply never heard of? That’s what commercial dog food has done for man’s best friend!
Proper nutrition dog food
If you really love your dog, you need to feed he or she a proper healthy diet. In most people’s eyes, apart from being immensely satisfying, making homemade food is the best way to provide your best friend with all the nutrients and natural goodness needed for a long and healthy life!
My personal preference has been to opt for the lightly cooked method of making homemade food for my dogs. Along with raw dog food, it’s the closest you can come to achieving maximum nutritional benefits from their food. Certainly as far as fruit and vegetables are concerned. They need either to be puréed or lightly cooked in order to make their nutrients bioavailable to your dog. Home cooking is what most people would consider the ideal way to feed their best friend.
Raw dog food is another popular option today. Once again I recommend adding fruit and vegetables though. They contain many vitamins and minerals not available in meat.
Whether you choose to feed your dog lightly cooked or raw food, either is good nutrition dog food. You will be giving your dog the best chance for a long, happy, healthy life. Good food will boost your dog’s immune system. It will make he or she far less likely to develop any of the modern canine diseases. Many of which are directly related to commercial dog food and its appalling health record.
