The Canine Nutritionist

Nutrition is everything

Given the importance of dog nutrition, the fact that nutrition is the key to having a healthy dog, why would anyone not feed their dog the best food they could possibly afford?

In terms of your dog’s health, nutrition is everything. Between 80% and 90% of your dog’s immune system is in its gut. It makes sense that the better you feed your dog, the more robust its immune system will be and the better health he or she is likely to enjoy. So why do so many people leave their dog’s health to luck? Feed poor quality commercial dog food and hope that their best friend will have a long and healthy life.

As a dog nutritionist, I choose to tilt the odds in my dogs’ favour by feeding them a healthy diet. I don’t ever want to look back and ask myself a series of what ifs.

  • What if I’d fed my dog properly?
  • What if I’d taken responsibility for my pet?
  • What if I hadn’t been taken in by the lies of the commercial pet food industry?
  • What if I’d made the right decision for my dog?
  • What if I hadn’t listen to my vet who I now know was not trained in dog nutrition?

Dogs are what they eat

The importance of dog nutrition cannot be overstated. The term “you are what you eat” does not just apply to we human beings. It applies to our dogs as well. Our dogs are very much what they eat. If they eat high quality food, there’s a better than even chance they will enjoy long and healthy lives. Just like we human beings.

But if they eat junk food, commercial dog food, then guess what? Just like human beings who do not benefit from the healthiest diet, dogs are likely to suffer from a whole raft of diet-related health problems. Diabetes, seizures, hypertension and cancer. Together with any number of previously unheard of but now commonplace canine digestive problems like IBS and IBD, pancreatitis and colitis.

It’s never too late

While it’s true that the sooner you improve your dog’s diet the better, it’s never too late. Yes, it’s harder once your dog is suffering from health problems, but most can be improved with better food. In fact it’s been estimated that up to 80% of canine health problems can be cured or improved by dietary intervention alone!

As a certified dog nutritionist, I spend my life trying to correct health problems created by commercial dog food. I deal every day with dogs who have suffered years of health problems courtesy of the commercial dog food industry. While it’s never too late, the earlier you start to feed your dog a healthy diet, the less damage will be done to your pet, and the more likely your dog’s health problems can be corrected.

All I ask is that you don’t leave it too late!
